Lots of clean up underway here! It’s incredible how many small scraps of fabric litter every flat surface in this room, including the floor! That makes for some tedious organizing! And there’s no way of getting away with ignoring this unless you want to just toss away handfuls of money. In a small room, this takes some creative thinking too! I was at a point where I had no more nooks or crannies to put these overgrowing zip lock bags of scraps. All of the large plastic tubs that could possibly fit in here are full to the brim…but as I increasingly use small bits of fused fabric, I can’t afford to throw them out, and being a long time recycler, I can’t bring myself to waste so much perfectly good material. So…
I went online looking for clear plastic bags that were a good size and that I could hang up. The cheapest ones I could find were at least $5 a piece. To much for me! 15 of them would be $75.
So I decided to browse through the nearby Dollar Store. Even there, nothing that would work for me as I searched for clear plastic bags sturdy and hangable. But on my way out I noticed another possibility well within my price range! Netting bags – designed for travelling laundry! And I thought I was buying 15 bags for $1.00 a piece, but there were 2 bags in each bag, so I paid 50 cents a piece for 30 bags and that was a fortunate error, because I have used 28 of them already! This is decidedly not the most attractive storage option I might have employed but it was quick and affordable since I already had the bar they are hung from, off the floor and out of the way on an otherwise wasted space – just what I wanted. No more wasted space in this cube!
As you can see, even without clear plastic, I can still see what color is in the bag, since they are organized by color.
This what happens when your sewing machine is in the shop for a tune up! And if you are observant, you can see that’s not all I’ve been up to!
