WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: Dense
Unable to sustain funding, sadly, The American Textile Museum in Lowell has closed its doors. The bulk of their collections are transerred to Cornell University in Ithica, NY. Anyone travelling that way should think about a visit there. As a leading academic research library, they have an extensive collection of historical textile documents, photos, and ephemera.
I was lucky enough to have visited the Textile Museum while it was still open in 2014. So dense with history, I thought this was a great opportunity to share some of my photos of it.
For me as well it’s also sad when such places are being closed. Old buildings bare a kind of spirit that you won’t find that easily any more in present world.

True! When I was there it was as if there were spirits lingering by the loom and in dark corners. There are still so many of the mill buildings in Lowell and they’re being converted to other uses – much better than being demolished!

My friends were just in San Miguel de Allende in Mexico and they told me that there was an old fabric factory outside of town that had been converted into hundreds of artist’s studios…
