I’ve taken the first few steps on a new path toward Explorations: Journeys in Creativity, an exhibit that will premier at the New England Quilt Museum later this year and next, in two parts.
The focus of this exhibit is art quilting techniques and I’ve been accepted to create a 30 x 50” art quilt and to assemble a presentation board to document the technique involved in Eco Printing.
My process began with a lot of free flowing thinking and pawing through my eco-printed and dyed stock ; then, auditioning a selection of prints that I really love. My initial effort was actually a false start.
Here’s what I started with, but because it was primarily rusted cloth, I opted to start over with fabric that has more eco-printing on it…duh! I will, however, go back to this project because I know it’s a good plan and some of my most loved cloth.
I’m pretty enamored with the next choice that is pinned to my design wall right now and is awaiting further development.
The panel on the left side is doubled over on the wall but I will cut it in half and place the other half on the right side….unless I change my mind….stay tuned as I will update this project as I go along.
Ordinarily, I don’t ecoprint at this time of year so I’m starting out with fabric that I printed last summer and fall because I don’t have a wetroom indoors. However, I’m going to do some small scale experimenting soon and may have some new prints I could add to this. I may do it indoors, despite the inherent problems of space, or I can go out to my seasonal studio if the sun shines enough to warm it up out there…here’s hoping!
